Donkeys Love Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a hands-on healing technique that originated in Japan in the early 1900's and is now practiced throughout the world by millions of practitioners. The Japanese word means universal life force energy. The Reiki practitioner transmits this energy to the client during a treatment to enhance health and well being.

Why do Reiki on animals?

Like humans, our pets can have physical, emotional and mental problems. Also, animals that live with us often take on their owner's problems, in an attempt to heal them. If the animal can't discharge the energy, this can make them sick. An animal that has been abused or simply not had the proper environment can carry trauma in their body that needs healing.

Providing Reiki treatments for our pets is a loving way to extend healing energy to them. It can help reduce pain and enhance the animal's innate healing ability, leading to accelerated recovery from injuries and illness.

Reiki for both people and pets

People and pets often ‘mirror’ each other's physical and emotional state. This happens because of the deep bond between them and the desire to heal each other. Because of the shared energy in this close relationship, energetic imbalances are shared as well. For optimum healing potential, joint treatments for people and their pets are recommended.

Reiki and Bach Flower Essences

To enhance the healing process, I also offer flower essences that you can use after the Reiki treatment to continue treatment on your own. These gentle remedies can be used on both people and pets.

What is Reiki and what can my animal get out of it?

Reiki is an effective yet gentle, noninvasive and powerful form of healing. It is safe and works well with conventional or holistic medicine. Reiki is only for good and will not harm an animal; the animal only needs to be open to receive Reiki. The amount of Reiki is determined by the animal. Reiki is not something that I do, it is energy from the universe that the animal chooses to receive through me and the amount they choose to receive is up to them. Even if you do not see immediate results know that Reiki healing has taken place on some level. Reiki can address any problem an animal may have, be it physical, emotional or spiritual.

What results can I expect from Reiki?

Reiki can assist with healing and balancing all levels of the body: physical, emotional and mental. The practitioner does not control the energy or the outcome of the treatment. Rather, the intelligence of Reiki is in charge of the energy and the practitioner is simply a channel.

Some results reported by people and pets include:
Relaxation
Less stress
Reduced pain
Improved Mood
Accelerated Healing
Improvement of medical conditions
Increased effectiveness of other therapies
Is Reiki Safe for my animal?
Reiki can be used from a distance so you do not have to bring the animal in for treatments. You are also able to use this distance treatment for aggressive or feral/wild animals providing them with the safe healing they need as well as safety for the Practitioner. Reiki goes directly to the problem whether we know what it is or not. It can be of past, present or future concerns or situations as well as physical needs for healing.
  •
  • Will a Reiki treatment interfere with my pet's medication or my Vet's treatment?
No, Reiki works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
  •
  • When is Reiki appropriate for my pet?
  •  Reiki energy treatments have been used in numerous animal shelters around the world to help injured dogs recover, help them relax and adjust to their new situation, recover from surgery and help some of them to become adoptable.
  • Reiki is beneficial if your pet will be having surgery as well as post-surgery.
  •
  • Reiki is beneficial for any animal who has over exerted themselves and is sore.
  •
  • Reiki is beneficial for pets with chronic problems such as arthritis or hip problems.
  •
  • Reiki is beneficial in transition situations such as the loss of a companion pet or the loss of an owner.
  •
  • Reiki is beneficial for Senior and Special Needs pets.
  •
  • Reiki is also beneficial for helping a pet who is dying as well as the family members.
Will Reiki work on any pet or animal?
Yes, Reiki will work on any pets including: birds, fish, hamsters, gerbils, frogs, snakes, lizards and our wild animals.

*NOTE:
Reiki does not always provide physical healing. Passing or crossing over may be what is requested by the animal if it is his or her time to go. Reiki can help ease this transition.

Reiki is not a substitute for regular veterinary care. Always consult your veterinarian regarding the best course of medical treatment for your animal.

Distance Healing

What is Distance Healing?

We live in a world of energy. Everything in our world is made up of energy, and everyone in the world is a unique energy field living in the much larger energy field of the Universe. Reiki is healing energy and can be transmitted through the energy field of the Universe to a specific recipient through our intention to do so, in a manner somewhat similar to prayer. There are no limitations of time or space. Reiki can be sent to the past, the present, or the future, and offers the same benefits as hands-on Reiki.

Distance Healing Sessions can be used for:

  • Animals that live too far away for a hands-on treatment
  • Animals that are very small (direct energy may be too strong), afraid of people, or extremely sensitive
  • Wild animals that are easily stressed by being in close contact with humans
  • Emergency situations - I can usually offer a distant treatment within one day of being contacted
  • Animals that may be starting to come down with an illness
  • Animals that may need additional support between hands-on treatments
  • Helping to heal family situations that involve the animal
  • Helping animal caretakers with the death of an animal
  • Scheduled hands-on sessions that cannot be conducted due to inclement weather

A Distance Healing Session is set for a prearranged time and takes approximately 30 minutes. When scheduling a treatment, it is usually best to be with your animal during the session. It can be a great comfort to have their person nearby when they experience the new energy. I will contact you after the session to discuss what I felt, what you observed, and answer any questions you may have.

For how long should I schedule the session?

It is usually best to schedule the initial session for an hour to ensure that there is plenty of time to get familiar with the animal and conduct the session in a relaxed manner. After the first session, a shorter or longer session can be scheduled depending on the situation. Smaller animals with milder issues may only need a 30 minute session, larger animals such as horses may need a 60 minute session, and severely ill animals may need a 90 minute session.Ultimately, I allow the animal to decide how much Reiki they would like.

How many sessions will be needed? The following guidelines are recommended by Animal Reiki experts Kathleen Prasad and Elizabeth Fulton in their groundbreaking book Animal Reiki: Using Energy to Heal the Animals in Your Life

  • "The healing effects of Reiki treatments build upon one another when they are given close together in time, so, with many conditions, it is best to begin with a series of four treatments on consecutive days, if possible.
  • For minor health problems, a series of four treatments is optimal but if it is not possible, once-a-week treatments may be adequate until the problem resolves.
  • Serious or chronic problems benefit from a series of four treatments on consecutive days, if possible, followed by at least once or twice-a-week treatments until the problem resolves.
  • For very seriously ill animals or animals with deep spiritual or emotional damage, the optimal approach is to give as much Reiki as possible, particularly at the beginning of a course of treatment. Sometimes daily treatments are necessary to reach as deeply into a being as is needed to return him to health. On other occasions, one or two treatments will work apparent miracles, but sometimes it takes a very concerted effort and great dedication to bring about a shift toward health.
  • For general energetic balance and health maintenance, every animal will benefit from regular weekly or bi-weekly treatments. Of course, regular daily treatments (of even five or ten minutes) will benefit animals as much as daily self-treatment will benefit you."

Most animals are more comfortable and better able to relax in familiar surroundings.
For this reason I prefer to provide treatments either in their own home or through a Distance Session.
