We were very lucky to have found Smokey on Petfinders.com and on Christmas Eve 2004 he came home to be part of our family. He is part Newfoundland and part Chow. We named Smokey because he looks just like a big, black bear.
Christmas Eve is the busiest time of the year for finding a pet groomer and Smokey really needed one. His long, long coat was matted and filthy and he really needed a bath. We were able to get him an appointment with Bonnie at Kountry Kritters in Chattaroy. We have since come to consider Bonnie as part of our family and highly recommend to her everyone we know.
Smokey bonded with David as if he had been waiting for him forever. They are inseparable and spend all their time together. Smokey is gentle, sweet, patient and tolerant but is also an excellent watchdog. He is wonderful with all the animals. If there is a chicken in his path, he will stand there and wait for them to go by or will turn around. Sometimes he will lie on the porch and the chickens will peck at his fur and he will just ignore them or get up and move, but he is always good with them. When we bring home birds to care for Smokey takes the job as guard and will not allow any other animal near the rehab cage.
This winter we were all on a walk in the woods. We saw the UPS truck pull up as we were heading back and Smokey ran off to greet the driver who always has a snack for the boys. This day there was a substitute driver and when he saw Smokey he ran back to his truck. When we got there he was a little embarrassed and told us he thought Smokey was a bear!

| Smokey loves harmonica music. Put on Bruce Springstein or some old Blues and Smokey will howl away. Check out Smokey wearing David’s motorcycle shades below. What a dog! We are so glad he is part of our family.
