I have been collecting antique and vintage sewing utensils for over 25 years.

I am offering some of my favorites here as we continue to raise money for our donkey rescue.

DARNERS

This baby size Sock Darner is in excellent condition and just the cutest little thing! What a special addition to any sewing utensil collection. It measures just 4 ½” long. Original beige glossy paint. These small darners are extremely difficult to find. Note the delicate handle. This is an exceptionally sweet darner. $45

This is another baby size Sock Darner. It has quite a bit of wear to it as seen in the photo as it was obviously a much used tool! I think it gives it a lot of character and it has always been one of my favorite tools. Original off-white paint. This darner has a larger darning egg then the one above and a detailed turned end to the handle. Measures just 4 ½” long. These small darners are extremely difficult to find. $35

This Glossy Black Sock Darner is in very good condition, used but not abused. These black darners always evoke a lot of nostalgia when people see them. Measures 5 ½” long. $15

This Sock Darner is made of hardwood with a light finish. It is in good, used condition. It has a lovely shape and a generous darning egg size. I love these darners that have lots of character and were obviously much used. Measures 5 1/4” long. $25

This gorgeous Sock Darner is made of oak and has a polished finish. It is highly unusual to find a darner made of oak as it was expensive even 100 years ago. It is in excellent condition and looks to have never been used. The grain is spiraled all around the egg and the handle also has the beautiful oak grain swirl. This darner has an exquisite shape and is a piece of artwork all by itself. Measures 7” long. $75

Sperm Sewing Machine Oil

Sperm Sewing Machine Oil Bottle

This wonderful old Sperm Whale Sewing Machine Oil bottle has turned amethyst purple over the past decade and is in excellent condition. The letters are raised and the bottle measures 4 ½” tall.  One small chip on the lip. Would make a great sewing room display piece. $45

These wonderful utensils are antique button hooks which were most often used for spats or women's gloves but also for tiny clothing buttons, expecially 1800s baby Christening gowns.
$12.50 each or 4/$40

8 different vintage, genuine pearl Bluebird button cards. All are complete. Cards have some wear to them (they are from the 1930s) and most have a ‘10’ for the price written on them. $10 for all.

This wonderful old pincushion is a dog made out of velvet corduroy. He has his original pink ribbon around his neck and his tongue is a measuring tape although I am afraid to pull it out so can not guarantee it will work. The pincushion base is approx. 4” square and made from different colored squares. There is some wear to the velvet bit very little and it just gives him character. $20

Here are 5 different metal Advertising shoe and button hooks. $5 each

Left to right:

  1. 3” - McIntyre Shoe Store New Castle, Ind
  2. 3 - ½” Lacy’s Shoe Store Vallejo, CA
  3. 5” - Weinstock, Lubin & Co. Sacramento, CAL
  4. 5” - N. Heintz & Sons Shoes, Quincy, ILL
  5. 3” - Arrow Spats

This is a fabulous card! It holds large black snaps called ‘Starsnap’ – the Perfect Dress Fastener and was made by the Columbia Fastener Co in Chicago. The card is in excellent shape but has been folded down the middle. Colors are bright and snaps are rust free. The back has interesting snap information and company info. Measures 3.5" x 5" - $5

This is an interesting Needle Case that opens like a book. It is padded and the covering is a textured waterproof material with embossed gold picture and writing on front. Czechoslovakian needles noted inside but the cotton sewing thread says made in USA so I am not sure where this was made. Approx 3” x 4”. A few needles are missing but the needle threader is intact and unused. $10.

Original Franklin Treadle Sewing Machine Manual. Made by Sears, Roebuck and Co. In excellent condition. Includes care for the machine, using the attachments such as ruffler, shirrer, how to use the tuck marker and how to tuck. There is a full page photo on one page of a porcelain doll wearing a hand made outfit. 36 pages. 5 ½” 8 ½”. $25

1960 Singer Sewing Machine Student’s Manual of Sewing Machine Attachments. 40 pages of information on how to use 12 different attachments. Filled with colorful drawings and lot of information. Some small tears along the front and back covers but overall great condition. 8 ½” x 11” with 3 ring binder factory made holes. $12.50

This is an aluminum Singer Sewing Machines advertising thimble. It is silver with red paint and raised lettering. A little worn as it has been used but still a delightful Singer collectible! I spent many years searching for one of these long before ebay made everything so easily accessible. $20

Here are 4 great old boxes of J&P Coats Darning and Mending Threads.

Top to bottom:

  1. Tiny box of Mending silk. 2 spools are missing. Wooden spools. 1 1/2'” x 3 ½”
  2. Another little box of Mending Floss Also missing 2 spools. These spools are wood. Still has the 2 sided tri-fold pamphlet insert. On the back is a 10 cent sticker from San Francisco.
  3. This yellow box has a tiny pencil note in the corner for the price – 10c. Box and all spools are intact and complete. Unused. Cardboard spools. Approx 2” x 5”.
  4. This box is empty but is a great display piece. 2 ½” x 5 Ύ”.

$20 for all 4 boxes

This is a super nice find. A pincushion from the 1930s. These were extremely popular with women at that time as they were very inexpensive and came in many colors. Inside the lid is a mirror (as shown in photo). There are 6 colors of thread, a thimble and the original needle. The pin cushion top is maroon velvet. There are some tiny holes in the velvet from age or perhaps it was used as a pincushion at some time but the insides have not been touched. $20

Singer Dressmaking Guide dated 1947. Measures 8” x 10”. Original price 25 cents. Contains chapters on everything you might need to make clothing from scratch. Fabrics, measurements, hems and more – Over 30 categories. Packed with diagrams and drawings. The back pictures a drawing of a Singer store in full color. In very good condition. $15

Singer Tracing Paper in original packet. There is no date but from the logo and packaging I would guess it is from the 1940s, early 1950s. Quite a few colors of paper inside, about a third have been used. A nice Singer collectible. Not many of these survived as it was a throwaway item. Came with 8 sheets, 8 sheets are still inside. Measures 7” x 10 ½”. Very good overall condition with a small tear on the back flap. $15

I always loved this item. It is what the store wrapped around remnants of fabric at a reduced price. 2/3 of the paper has a tear along the lengthwise center. There is some tape on the opposite side. Rolled up it looks fine. Still has the grommet and string to tie it closed. I have never seen another of these! $5
